If music be the food of love, play on

William Shakespeare's profound narratives and emotive characters have influenced classical music throughout the centuries, inspiring composers to create timeless masterpieces that have been adapted for opera, television and film.

During an evening that explores the depth and prevalence of his literary genius, be prepared to be swept into a magical realm as The Phoenix Orchestra brings to life the enchanting fairy-like whispers of Mendelssohn's‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’. In contrast, this is followed by the brooding melody and sombre tones of Dvorak’s ‘Othello’.

In the second half of the evening, the symphonic journey continues as the orchestra gathers momentum with a stirring performance ofWilliam Walton’s score for ‘Henry V’, each note transporting you to the battlefields of Agincourt and the rousing nobility of Olivier. And who better to recite the Bard’s words than one of our finest Shakespearean actors, SamuelWest?
